Interviewing Skills:
Journalists must, must, must aquire excellent interviewing skills in order to be successful. Conducting proper and effective interviews is one of the most important aspects to writing a great article.

After looking through many sources we narrowed down the best sites:

http://www.mediacollege.com/journalism/interviews/
This website was one of the first sources in our search and was the best one of the bunch. It was very clear and stated its purpose. It was easy to read and understand because it did not list pages and pages of information. It gave you the step by step process of how to conduct a successful interview and gave may helpful hints on how to prepare for and interview. The site listed the importance of interviewing skills and why communication is so vital in the journalism industry. We really liked how the site gave information on one subtopic on one page and then you click to the next page to find the next subtopic.

http://www.tvjournalist.net/comm_skills.htm
This website did not have as much information as the first...but it did highlight the important points of skills you need in order to undergo a successful interview. It talked about, once again, how important communication is in journalism, especially in television journalism. The site was clear and to the point which is sometimes best when researching information.

Factors that Determine News:

Proximity, Impact/Interest, Timeliness, Audience, Conflict, Unusal, and Prominence are the most IMPORTANT factors when choosing what story is newsworthy.

http://www.thegully.com/actions/journalism/what_is_news.html
This website gave be basis of news; defining news and how to determine what is news. It stated the seven factors of news (listed above) and went into detail about each factor. The page also gave a list of related articles to the topic of "what is news" which were also very helpful in searching the factors such as "how to write news" and "writing leads". The page was very clear and easy to understand; once again...not to wordy!

http://www.communication.utah.edu/classes/sp02/news.html
This webpage once again stated the seven factors that determined news. This site went more in depth than the one above by giving examples for the factors. Giving examples can really help someone who does not know the information to put the factors into perspective. The webpage also listed the different job positions in journalism and defined each one. They also listed the three important orgins to a story. Targetting Audience
